Bikes!

There's lots to catch up on, here--like our trip to Utah last week!--but thought I'd interrupt planned programming to announce that Ida and Miki suddenly took it upon themselves, yesterday, to learn to ride bikes!  At last!  And probably they would have learned more quickly (Ida, especially) if they could ride without talking.  (Also, I am learning how to use iMovie on my phone.)

Goodbye, Lu

Our sweet Lucy returned to her foster mom today, a place where she'll be safer.  We were so lucky to have her for this six months--she dished out and received so much love--and it's only some unfortunate events, not her fault, that part us.  Can't and won't go into it more, here, but did want to say farewell, and share a couple photos from the goodbyes.

Lover of all two-legged animals, we will not forget you, Lucy.

Locutions of these demented days

I remember back when these dudes putting a sentence together was cause for wonder; now they've been destroyed by technology.

Miki, to Ella, at dinner:  "Do you want me to call you 'cray-cray' or 'nuts-nuts'?"

Ida, to some guy whose hair she was cutting in a game on my phone, while I was driving:  "Whoa, Dad, this dude is totally a bro; look at what I'm doing, and he's going, 'uh'--he's definitely a hoser."

Kindergarten Horizon

Hard to believe, but Miki will start kindergarten next year. Last Wednesday the girls and I went to Duniway for the round-up. No one was as formally attired as we were. And Miki listened quite, quite seriously to everything the principal and teachers had to say.

As you might imagine, we were very fortunate for all of Ida's Wisdom about all things Duniway and kindergarten.  She was very quick to explain to anyone we encountered that she was a first grader; fortunately no one explicitly assumed that she was going to begin kindergarten herself.  She introduced her sister to all the people who mattered.

Personally, I am tormented.  I was brow-beaten into wearing a tie, for instance.

It will be so great to have them in the same school again!
