Summer

Last Friday night Ida went to a "pajama/bowling birthday party" and Miki and I weren't invited (Ella was working, natch), so Miki proposed that we go to Gino's and get some beer and a Shirley Temple...
She got verification from the waitress that this was "the fanciest drink at Gino's."

Bonus: Miki had to poop, and we were away from our table so long that they cleared it--therefore, a free round of new drinks! While I'm here, yesterday's dinner conversation: Ida: "When I grow up, I'm going to be an artist who draws b-u-t-t-s and vaginas." Miki: "I'm gonna be a scientist! I'll scientist chairs with bird heads, and I'll scientist birds with people heads..."

The End of Something (s)

Yeah, so much is ending! It's bittersweet. Like last week was probably the last time I drive all four girls to school in the moving van (that's Arthur, back there):

This is how it used to look, way back in the day:

You can't see Miki in that photo because she had to be turned around backward:

And then the Kindergarten end of the year Show!  One benefit of being relatively short is you get to be in front:

Ida explained that some of her classmates felt "uncomfortable" and had "stage fright," but not her.  She's got performing in her blood.

These hosers were sitting behind me.  Maggie gave me a "wet willie."

Ida had an important role as "Princess Leah" (not Princess Leia) as they sang and acted out a Jimmy Buffett song.  She gave pearls and coral to Young Mr. Moon and Magnus:

Here's Ida's teacher, Jan!  Longsuffering!  She's retiring this year, maybe due to Ida.

Yes, Ida graduated!  Is reading!  Heading on to first grade (after a slew of camps)!

It is difficult to understand why Maggie hates so much on the celebration of kindergarten graduation, and my appreciation of it.  Is it because Elsie didn't get enrobed?  This at present is my only surmise.

The future!

Leaping Lamb Farmstay!

YES, thanks to Ella, we went down to magnificent Alsea and stayed overnight at the Leaping Lamb Farmstay.  This, by the way, is Paco, who's kind of the mascot of LLF.  He's some kind of miniature donkey.  And yes, Baby Matthew decided to come along, for old times' sake!

Given this situation, where one pays money to help out on a farm, we worked very, very hard.

We also fed the sheep.  The girls missed no chance to remind Scottie, owner of LLF, that I, in fact, once worked on a farm.  Or maybe they said I was in charge of a farm.  IN any case, I acquitted myself phenomenally.  (And Ida had no hesitance to remind everyone "I'm very good with animals.")

Whoa.

Overnight, that bad horse Tater got into the barn and pooped everywhere.  Fortunately, we were able to scoop and clean everything up.

Rule #1:  Keep your mouth shut when shoveling poop.

Ida worked very hard to get close to these sheep.

We also got lots of farm-fresh produce.

And Pea-Diddy the peacock dropped in to steal bird seed from our feeder.

That there, above, is Tater, the very bad horse!  The girls loved him, but also wanted to be certain he was punished for his behavior.  That's Dutch Boy, down there.  A very interesting turkey indeed.

And then on the way home we scaled the mighty Mary's Peak, highest peak in the coast range.  The girls alternately hated and loved this one.  More on that, later...

Bleary & Entertaining Days

Could things be even more non-stop? Doubt it, bro. Started out with the "Duniway Parade" on Friday afternoon. Crazy. Here's Ida and her teacher, Jan, parading:

Theo and Sara even came to witness it.

Early Saturday we had gymnastics, and then a quick run to Sauvie to slay some strawberries.

Hurried home, got everyone on bikes (Miki, Ida, Arthur, Elsie) and headed over to Duniway to work the monkey bars.

OH yeah, some quick chalk-tracing before dinner.  Best if you have your eyes closed while being traced.

People have said, "What if you're six years into this blog and you do like seven entries where there are no comments, will you stop?" And I'm all, "I really don't know that."

Anyway, the real backbreaker was the SLEEPOVER.  Payback time.  Not much sleep was had.  Got up real early and while the iron-willed Ella went jogging I made waffles and then allowed them to put underwear on their head and play a complicated "undies" game that Ida devised.

So, this is kind of weird.  Part of the reason we did all this was so that Arthur and Maggie could have some "married people time" together.  Loving time.  So why, when left alone, did both Maggie (11:57 PM) and

Arthur (12:15 AM) have to text/email me photos of their husband/wife. Why not just pay attention to each other, rather than to seek weird late night validation from me?  Okay, you're both extremely attractive--I'm impressed that one of you has ensnared the other!  But just get at it!  You don't need my okay.

So we compounded all the craziness by going to see "Frog & Toad," a crazy musical.  The girls were into it.  So was I.  Here's Frog and Toad, signing autographs.  Crazy amphibians!
