In this photo she is flanked by some tulips sent by Motoko-san (via Maggie) and also three extremely expensive bouquets sent by the Reed College President, the Dean of Faculty, and the English Department; one would think that, as Reed is a small school, these bouquets might have been consolidated. The fact that they were not is a testament to the fear and respect that is accorded to Ida's father in the academy.
While I'm here, let me clarify the pronunciation of Ida's name; many have been bewildered.
Ida (Eye-duh) Akiko (Ah-key-koh) Rock (Rawk)
Akiko seems to be the trickiest one. If you're from Canada or even not, you can think of it as saying "hockey-ko" without the "h." Kind of. We much prefer "Ah-key-ko" with equally stressed syllables, to the Americanized "Ah-KEE-ko." Aki or Ah-key for short. Clear?

i'd like to say she's looking fierce, but i think pensive is a more fitting description. congratulations back at you.
I am not sure that the much feared and respected prof pete is the father of this child.
